Mexican Hat Dance

Known in Mexico as the Jarabe Tapatío, this lively dance started in Guadalajara in the early 1900s and was named Mexico's national dance in 1924. Traditionally, a couple dances around a sombrero placed on the floor, and the quick, punchy rhythm makes it instantly recognizable, even to people who've never heard its real name.
