How They Dance, Dance, Dance

This one is a true antique--French nursery rhymes don't get much older than “Ainsi font, font, font.” Some trace it back as far as the 15th century. It was written as a gesture song: parents wiggle their fingers in the air like little marionnettes (puppets) while singing to a baby, and the baby imitates them. There's something nice about knowing that the same simple, playful tune you're learning has been charming small children in France for something like 500 years.
