In the Pines

Level 1, B

“In the Pines” belongs to a long tradition of Appalachian music dating back at least to 1870. It has been recorded by many artists, including some early ones like Leadbelly and Bill Monroe. More recently, Nirvana recorded a version in the 1990's under the name, “Where Did You Sleep Last Night”.

Basically in C position, this piece also includes an A above the usual five finger hand position, and a B below. To reach the A in the left hand, finger 2 plays G instead of F. In the right hand the pinky just does an easy stretch--similar to the stretch in the left hand to reach B--It will be clear when you see the sheet music!
