The singers "Roaring Lion" (born Rafael de Leon) and Terry Gilkyson popularized this calypso song in the late 1940's and '50s. Calypso is a style of Caribbean music which originated in Trinidad (Roaring Lion himself was Trinidadian), and is frequently played on steel drums. The video page compiled for this song has one version sung by Roaring Lion and another played on a steel drum. Calypso influenced many later Caribbean styles, among them ska and reggae. If you have students on the cusp of learning 3-note C and G7 chords then this piece is for them. If you self-teach be aware of the importance of these chords. They will be the basis for much of the music to come.
