Can You Plant your Cabbage So?

This is a French singing game that goes back to the Middle Ages, when cabbages had become a real staple of the peasant diet. As you sing through the verses, you act out “planting” the cabbage with a different body part each time--your hand, your foot, your elbow, even your nose--which has made it a favorite for teaching French kids (and now piano students) the words for parts of the body while having fun with a silly gesture game. It's simple and repetitive by design, which happens to make it a nice, approachable tune for a beginning pianist too.
